Cattedrale di san Nicola e san donato is located in Piazza Cavour, one of Bagnoregio’s main squares. This imposing building assumed the title of Cathedral following the 1695 earthquake, replacing the Church of San Donato in the hamlet of Civita, from which it inherited part of its name.
Over the next two centuries, the building was enlarged and underwent thorough renovations so that the structure was better suited to its function. The interior houses, for believers and the merely curious, the silver reliquary with the bones of St. Bonaventure’s arm, the Bible of St. Bonaventure, in precious finely illuminated parchment, as well as an exquisite tabernacle from the Renaissance period.
